Newburyport Choral Society 2022 Winter Concert: In Terra Pax

Newburyport Choral Society 2022 Winter Concert: In Terra Pax

Presented by Newburyport Choral Society at Belleville Congregational Church

Music Director Ryan Turner will conduct the chorus, vocal soloists, and a 17-piece orchestra. The Greater Newburyport Children’s Chorus under the direction of Music Director Gina McKeown will also perform.

The concert, entitled “In Terra Pax” (Peace on Earth) presents as its centerpiece Gerald Finzi’s In Terra Pax, a dramatic and powerful rendition of the Nativity story.

One of the most inspiring pieces to be performed will be a new work, Guidelines, commissioned by NCS to commemorate the 90th birthday of internationally-acclaimed Newburyport poet Rhina Espaillat. With music composed by Dr. Zanaida Robles, an award-winning Black American female composer, the three-movement piece sets to music the rhythms, imagery, and emotions of Espaillat’s exquisite poetry.

The chorus will also perform John Rutter’s When Icicles Hang—a selection of spirited and festive English carols—as well as several other holiday-themed songs.

Soloists for the performances will be Baritone Andrew Padgett and Soprano Sarah Hubbard.
