Operatic and concert baritone Ilya Silchukou appears with opera companies and in concert halls across Europe and beyond. On Saturday, December 17, at 6 p.m., he will perform with a rare show ”Voice of My Land” at Distler Performance Hall (20 Talbot Ave, Medford, MA). Accompanied by eminent pianist Tatiana Loisha, Ilya Silchukou will provide a unique opportunity to learn about Belarusian & Eastern-European culture, including its centuries-long classical and folk music history.

“Voice of My Land” features medieval and sacred music of unknown Eastern-European authors of XVII cent. as well as works of prominent composers: Stanislaw Moniuszko, Franz Schubert, and Michal Kleofas Oginski. The program concludes with selected songs by the Belarusian composers and poets of the XX century: Uladzimir Terauski, Symon Rak‐Michajlouski, Yanka Kupala, and Maksim Bahdanovich.

Belarusian Ilya Silchukou is an internationally sought-after Kavalier baritone. He frequently appears on most prestigious stages such as:Belgian Royal Opera La Monnaie,Teatro dell’Opera di Roma,Théâtre Capitôle de Toulouse,Israeli Opera Tel Aviv,Teatr Wielki Warsaw, Frankfurt Oper,Opera National de Montpellier,Teatro Verdi di Trieste,Sofia State Opera,Estonian State Opera Tallinn, Slovak National Opera Bratislava ,the Brigitta Opera Festival in Tallinn,BrucknerFest in Linz and Parnu Opera Festival among others.In concerts, he has been featured at the Moscow Opera Bolshoi , the Musikerlebnis Openair Festival and Radeberger Festival in München, to name a few.

In 2020, following a fraudulent election and violently suppressed mass protests in Belarus, Ilya became a prominent voice in the Belarusian fight for democracy. In taking a public stand against the current dictatorship, Ilya sacrificed his safety and financial stability. He was forced to flee from Belarus, where dissent is currently met with institutional retaliation, state-sanctioned violence, and imprisonment.

Tatiana Loisha is a Belarusian pianist. She graduated from the Belarusian Academy of Music and worked throughout Europe and the United States as a collaborative and concert pianist. After moving to the United States in 2014, Tatiana worked as a collaborative pianist with the Cleveland Institute of Music, Baldwin Wallace University, Cleveland Opera Theater, Opera Nova, Maryland Lyric Opera, and the Potomac Vocal Institute. Tatiana is an active performer, coach, and educator in the D.C. Metropolitan area.
