Our Will to Live

Our Will to Live

Presented by Goethe-Institut Boston at Goethe-Institut Boston

Come join Fulbright Holocaust music scholar Mark Ludwig as he presents a program of outstanding musical performance, rarely seen art, and newly translated firsthand accounts from Theresienstadt's (Terezín Concentration Camp) remarkable cultural community. Co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Germany, Goethe-Institut Boston, and the Terezín Music Foundation.

You'll hear Theresienstadt composer Viktor Ullmann's voice as Mark reads from the detailed concert critiques he wrote in the camp, and view stunning concert posters, programs, and portraits by Theresienstadt artists.

Acclaimed saxophonist Philippe Staudlin and pianist Yoko Hagino will perform works by Gideon Klein, Erwin Schulhoff, Kurt Weill, and Pavel Haas.

The program draws inspiration from Our Will to Live: The Terezín Music Critiques of Viktor Ullmann, Illustrations by Terezín Artists, published this year by Steidl Verlag. The event will conclude with a Q&A, a book signing, and refreshments with the artists.

Seating capacity is limited so we recommend to RSVP above or arrive early.
