MetWinds Band Concert: "Traditions"

Presented by Metropolitan Wind Symphony at Scottish Rite Masonic Museum

The Metropolitan Wind Symphony will begin their 52nd season with their in-person Fall Band Concert on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at 3:00 pm, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum, 33 Marrett Road, Lexington, MA. Richard E. Wyman will conduct his first program as the new Music Director of MetWinds. This program will honor cultural traditions of the United States and abroad, including the premiere performance of an exciting new work by Rubén Darío Gómez, a native of Colombia and winner of the MetWinds Student Composition Contest. Featured on this program are Chester by William Schuman, Roma by Valerie Coleman, Second Suite in F by Gustav Holst, Shanghai Overture by Bright Sheng, Latinoamérica Despierta by Rubén Darío Gómez, Chapultepec by Carlos Chavez, and Hoedown by Aaron Copland, transcribed by Rogers. Richard Wyman will present a free pre-concert lecture at 2:30pm inside the concert hall.

Richard E. Wyman is the new MetWinds Music Director. He is the former Assistant Director of the United States Coast Guard Band, where he served as conductor, Education Director, and producer. He is currently the Executive Director of the Community Music School in Centerbrook, CT and Choir Director at Noank (CT) Baptist Church.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $14 for seniors, $6 for students, and are free for children under 5. They are available at the door. Founded by Jerry Gardner in 1971, the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, a concert band, is currently celebrating its 52nd anniversary. The MetWinds comprises over 70 talented woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists who audition for membership and seating. It makes a significant contribution to the cultural life of the Greater Boston community by providing its audiences with high quality concerts and its members with opportunities for musical growth.

This and other concerts by the MetWinds are funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
