Music Director, Steven Lipsitt, who is widely recognized for his ability to combine precision and passion, intelligence, and invigoration, will conduct the BB&B Orchestra whose musicians are some of Boston area’s finest and most experienced freelance instrumentalists. A core group of the musicians has been playing together for many years, which gives the orchestra a deep rapport and an ability to focus on the substance of making music from the very beginning of the rehearsal process.

John Ferrillo joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as principal oboe at the start of the 2001 Tanglewood season, occupying the Mildred B. Remis Principal Oboe Chair, having appeared with the orchestra several times in previous seasons as a guest performer. From 1986 to 2001 he was principal oboe of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Mr. Ferrillo grew up in Bedford, Massachusetts, and played in the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute, where he studied with John de Lancie and received his diploma and artist’s certificate.

Described as “brilliant” by Opera News, Tenor, Matthew DiBattista, is continually in demand on some of the world’s most prestigious stages having performed opera and concert works throughout the United States and Europe.  He has sung with such conductors as Charles Dutoit, Seiji Ozawa, Keith Lockhart, Sir Andrew Davis and Robert Shaw.  Known for an exceptionally varied repertoire, Mr. DiBattista has performed over 60 different roles to date spanning the entire operatic repertoire.

Rachel Childers joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as second horn at the start of the 2011-12 season, becoming the first female member of the BSO brass section in its history; she occupies the John P. II and Nancy S. Eustis Chair in the BSO's horn section. Ms. Childers received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the University of Michigan, followed by an Artist Diploma from the Colburn School in Los Angeles. She is on the faculty at the New England Conservatory of Music.
