“For the People”
An exploration of what it means to belong through the eyes of William Shakespeare.
The basic concept of what it means to belong, and the complexities of this ideal are both timeless and timely. Much in the same way as the work of the Bard transcends time, class and race, so too does this desire to belong. The evening brings musical selections ranging from “classical texts” (Beethoven, Shakespeare) as well as contemporary (Lena Frank, Summer)
Musicians hope to both spark conversation and pose the following questions:
What does it mean to belong to oneself and one’s community?
What are those elements that stand in the way of belonging?
How can we find and see each other through it all?
What does it mean to truly be, as Shakespeare put it, not just the city but “the people”?
