Description:
This is an eight week class for intermediate and advanced potters to study tall form objects through wheel throwing or hand building. Some of the topics covered in this course specifically dedicated to larger works will be: wedging and handling, understanding the consistency of clay, surface decoration, managing the drying process to reduce cracking and deformation, and slab and coil work for handbuilding. The first half of the class elaborates on basic skills. The second half of the class will be project based, with all students working on their own individualized project based on their personal goals and pace while receiving help from the instructor.
Materials fee:
An $85 Clay and Firing Fee will be separately invoiced to students.
Prerequisites: At least one or two semesters of ceramics classes.
Additional notes:
Basic tools are provided by the studio. Student may wish to purchase their own tools. Instruction will be provided in first class.
This class is for adults.
About the instructor:
Chin started pottery in the early 1980's. In addition to teaching at LexArt, he has taught pottery classes at MIT Student Arts Association, Ceramics Studio at UC Berkeley as well as Sorenson Center for the Arts at Babson College over the last thirty years. Chin is a registered architect by training but his art work has been accepted in the American Craft Council's flagship show at Baltimore for both wholesale and retail shows. In the Ceramics Guild, he is known for making large forms.
