Get Up and Go with Watercolors with Susan Nordhausen

Presented by LexArt: Lexington Arts and Crafts Society at LexArt: Lexington Arts and Crafts Society

About the Class or Event

Course Level: Intermediate

Tuition: $275

Description:

Jump in and have fun. Time to dust off those brushes, loosen up and regain your sense of amazement as you see the colors jump off the paper.  We have all let our talents lie dormant too long and it's time to experiment and try new things with painting!

This class encourage you to experiment, with texture, with the natural flow of the medium, and with the play of lights against dark.  There will be an emphasis on simplifying the subject matter to what is needed to "tell the story"   Reference material is used, but not literally copied.

Note: There will be no class on October 20th.

Materials:

Students should purchase materials on their own. See Materials List here.

About the instructor:

Born in Lexington, MA, with parents who were both involved in the arts, and founding members of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society.  After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in art education, Sue went on to teach art at literally every age level.

Always learning, her watercolor studies continued  with George Shedd, Mel Stabin and Paul George.  In addition to showing her watercolors in the Plummer Studio, here at the Society, she has shown at the Hancock Gallery, the Waltham hospital and most recently was selected for a one  person show at the Acton Memorial Library.  At these shows,  Sue has won numerous awards for her watercolor landscapes.

Over the last ten years, Sue has put out many calendars featuring her watercolors over the seasons, as well as several sets of note cards, featuring the scenes around her home town of Acton. Sue has practiced metal working, enameling, weaving and oil painting, but says, “ it has always been watercolor that has captured my imagination.  Probably because of its fluid state and the fact that one cannot totally predict any outcome, but must continually make choices”.  I strive to follow the flow of the paint, and to interpret,  rather than to copy a subject”.

Although started very loosely,  her work is realistic in nature and her favorite subjects are the ones found close to home.
