The Embrace Ideas Festival is a yearly celebration of ideas grounded in arts, culture and public scholarship. This week-long gathering brings together local, state and national leaders to amplify anti-racism and a vision for a transformed Boston.
On Day 4 of Embrace Ideas Festival, hosted by WGBH, we explore the hope and possibility of reparations - a movement that has gained tremendous momentum over the last few years. King Boston’s Deputy Director, Tammy Tai, explores the history of the reparations movement and current state of affairs, with national male co-chair of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America (N’COBRA), Kamm Howard, author of Laying the Foundation for Local Reparations.
Following the keynote conversation, leaders of local reparations movements from across the country explore what it takes to advance historic reparations programs in their local communities: Dr. Jemadari Kamara, University of Massachusetts Boston; Sheryl Evans Davis, San Francisco Human Rights Commission; Dr. Amilcar Shabazz, Amherst African Heritage Reparation Assembly; and Robin Rue Simmons, FirstRepair.
As Boston considers a local reparations program, this day focused on truth and reconciliation will shine a light on what we must reckon with in order to realize community repair.
Unwind, connect, and enjoy small bites with fellow Festival attendees from 4-6pm with King Boston’s Artist-in-Resident, Amandi Music.
