The Embrace Ideas Festival is a yearly celebration of ideas grounded in arts, culture and public scholarship. This week-long gathering brings together local, state and national leaders to amplify anti-racism and a vision for a transformed Boston.
On Day 3 of Embrace Ideas Festival, hosted by the Institute of Contemporary Art, we explore the role of culture in creating a radically equitable and inclusive city. King Boston’s Executive Director, Imari Paris Jeffries, moderates a once in lifetime conversation between conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas, creator of The Embrace monument, which will be unveiled on Boston Common MLK weekend 2023, and Rujeko Hockley, Assistant Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, about the particular power and symbolism of monuments.
Following the keynote conversation, King Boston’s Director of Production and Digital Strategy, Greg Ball, facilitates a lively conversation with a few of Boston’s culture creators about the essential and vibrant role that culture plays in defining a city: Andrés Holder, Boston Children’s Chorus; Rob Gibbs, Pro Blak; Michael Bobbitt, Mass Cultural Council; and Sheena Collier, Boston While Black.
