Materials Lab Workshop: Cyanotypes

Materials Lab Workshop: Cyanotypes

Presented by Harvard Art Museums at Harvard Art Museums

This workshop is inspired by the exhibition White Shadows: Anneliese Hager and the Camera-less Photograph, which explores the innovative camera-less photography of German artist Anneliese Hager (1904–1997). The exhibition is on view at the Harvard Art Museums through July 31, 2022.

We will first gather in the galleries for an introduction to the exhibition by Bridget Hinz, curatorial assistant for special exhibitions and publications, who will examine a selection of Hager’s works. Then we’ll visit the Materials Lab, where conservator Penley Knipe will guide participants in the preparation of photosensitive cyanotype paper. (We may also go outdoors, weather permitting.) Participants will be able to create their own photograms, experimenting with both translucent and opaque materials.
