Experience the Chorale’s performance of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert with soprano Gabrielle Goodman, tap dancer Ian Berg, and the Boston Jazz Orchestra.
Join us for an exciting collaboration featuring some of Boston’s finest artists! Experience the Chorale’s performance of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concert with soprano Gabrielle Goodman, tap dancer Ian Berg, the Boston Jazz Orchestra, and special guest artist Mercedes Ellington.
The music - sung, played, and danced - comes from what is known as The Sacred Concerts, a series of performances that Ellington and his band performed between the years of 1965 and 1973 in the US and Europe. The version the Chorale is performing is an arrangement of selections from across the three concerts. Ellington referred to The Sacred Concerts as “the most important thing I have ever done.” Ellington united an audience that traversed religion and race, amplifying the unifying themes of freedom, love and hope.
The event will include a Q&A with Mercedes Ellington!
