Winchester Unitarian Society’s “Music in the Sanctuary” concludes its 16th season with a concert by Windborne, whose vocal agility, innovative harmonies, and authentic sound have thrilled audiences worldwide.
Winchester Unitarian Society concludes its 2021–2022 concert season with a not-to-be-missed concert by the internationally acclaimed vocal quartet Windborne. The concert will be performed before an in-person audience in the WUS sanctuary, 478 Main Street, Winchester, Friday April 29th, at 8:00 PM. It will also be live-streamed.
The four New England-based Windborne singers grew up in musical families, studying classical voice and instrumental music. Over the past decade, Windborne has sought out masters of traditional singing styles in the U.S. and around the world to study. Through these collaborations, they have developed the vocal agility and authentic sound for which they are known. Their repertoire includes songs from Corsica, the Republic of Georgia, Bulgaria, Quebec, and the Basque region, as well as original American folk music, including songs that reflect folk music’s alliance with social activism.
The Windborne singers are Lauren Breunig, Jeremy Carter-Gordon, Lynn Mahoney Rowan, and Will Thomas Rowan. Specializing in close harmony singing, the group shares a vibrant energy onstage, with a blending of voices borne of decades of friendship and dedicated practice. The group effortlessly shifts among dramatically different musical styles, taking their audience on a journey spanning continents and centuries. In the words of WGBH’s Brian O’Donovan, “Windborne sets a new bar for folk harmony singing today.”
