Free film screening celebrates art, environmental activism, and community
Watch live at the Regent Theater or stream at home
To celebrate the final months of Persistence, Michelle Lougee's installation crocheted from thousands of plastic bags, ArtsArlington and EcoWeek present a rare screening of Robin Frohardt's The Plastic Bag Store -- the Film followed by a Q&A with both artists.
Frohardt uses whimsical puppets to follow a plastic bottle into a dystopian future where it is misinterpreted as a precious artifact of a lost civilization -- ours. Michelle and Robin's works emphasize that plastic never "goes away" and prompt reflection on capitalism's disposable culture.
The New York Times called the film "an emphatic work of activism that is also a wistful work of art."
Persistence will be on view along the Minuteman Bikeway near Spy Pond through June 17; some of the 38 sculptures will be on sale during Porchfest on June 18.
Visit ArtsArlington.org/plastic for more information and free tickets for Regent or home viewing.
