Originally planned by DCS for spring 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, the concert celebrates one the world's greatest musical geniuses.  The main composition is the Mass in C Major, Opus 86, composed in 1807, which has been praised for its directness and emotional content. Two smaller works open the concert: the arrangement by one of Beethoven's contemporaries, of the first movement of the "Moonlight" Sonata, and the rarely performed "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage," a musically evocative work (sung in German) anticipating Beethoven's transition into a giant of the Romantic Era. The soloists are Katrina Holden, soprano; Caroline Olsen, mezzo soprano; Brendan Buckley, tenor; Ulysses Thomas, bass-baritone.
