An exploration of acceptance of ones own skin tone.
As I Am Series celebrates the beauty of melanated, sun-kissed, dark-skinned men and women. This project was birthed after a conversation with the artist's cousin, Virgina, who asked the artist to create this project so that she can share her story of how she came to embrace her skin tone over the years. The artist knew this would be powerful because she know little girls and boys, as well as men and women, who didn’t believe they were beautiful simply because of their skin tone. This project is meant to empower, uplift, and inspire viewers. And maybe even to start a conversation.
This conversation could include: issue of identity, conceptions of realities based on outward appearance, self worth, self acceptance and so much more.
