Boxes, Slipcovers & Closures with Cristina Hajosy

Presented by LexArt: Lexington Arts and Crafts Society at LexArt: Lexington Arts and Crafts Society

2 Saturdays, 10:00 am-4:00 pm

Begins April 23, In Studio

Skill Level: All

Class: $265

Materials fee: $50

Description:

Creating a special box to house an artist’s book, a portfolio of prints, or a personal treasure can be one of the most satisfying ways to finish a project. The craftsmanship of a well-made box, in some cases, will eclipse what’s inside. The box provides a protective enclosure while creating an expectation in the viewer and an immediate, tactile connection with the holder.

This workshop will begin with a small-scale box with hinged lid in elegant book cloth.  This project will introduce the materials and techniques for box making, adhesives, and best practices for cutting, sizing, and creating future templates or patterns.  Several single-sheet projects on corrugated cardboard, chipboard and heavy-weight card stocks will also build confidence with paper engineering. Japanese Origami structures, as well as Altering Boxes will stretch art practices and context shifts for surprising results.

All levels of artists are welcome. The range of techniques we'll cover will improve and expand the art practices of any artist regardless of media. All tools and materials are supplied.

Materials:

A $50 materials fee must be paid directly to the instructor at the beginning of the class.

She grew up on a cattle farm with a large catfish fishery, family garden, pecan orchards, and horses alongside private school, art classes, music lessons, and country club activities.
