Virtual Student Guide Tour: Cat Tales, with Paul Tamburro

Virtual Student Guide Tour: Cat Tales, with Paul Tamburro

Presented by Harvard Art Museums at Harvard Art Museums

In this tour, Paul Tamburro ’22 will explore the roles that a few works of art have given to cats—from objects of devotion to personal companions and alter egos. Featured works will include a leaded bronze sculpture of a cat made in ancient Egypt (mid-7th to late 1st century BCE), the hanging scroll depicting a tiger that Katayama Yōkoku painted in Edo period Japan (c. 1780–1801), and Self-Portrait with Cat, which German artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner painted in 1920.
