Presented by Boston Conservatory’s Newground Theatre Company, SIREN is an original musical that examines how far the definition of American can bend before it breaks, cast against the backdrop of Greek mythology.
SIREN is a brand-new musical by Boston Conservatory's Nina Osso (B.F.A. 2024) that draws from Greek mythology to comment on American society, inspiring important conversations about what it means to remain apolitical and what role an individual can play in changing the world. SIREN takes place in an alternate version of 2026, where a charismatic leader with a predilection for ancient Greek society and mythology has been elected to the American presidential office. As he attempts to draft a new constitution, it quickly becomes apparent that his ideology is dangerously close to fascism. Brent, a recent college graduate living in Washington, D.C., chooses ignorant bliss despite warnings from Adeline, a brilliant journalist and Brent’s closest friend. But when Brent is drafted to fill a particularly violent role within this new government, he's forced to come to terms with all sides of himself – his moral boundaries, identity, and contributions to a system that is more dangerous than it looks.
Presented by Newground Theatre Company, SIREN currently involves 50 Boston Conservatory and Berklee College of Music students between its cast, creative team, and orchestra, all of whom are working to bring a story that’s never been told before to the wider Boston community.
* SIREN is being produced by Newground Theatre Company of Boston Conservatory. We are separate from the Dante Alighieri Society, and views reflected in SIREN are unrelated to the Dante Alighieri’s mission as a cultural institution of Boston.
