March Directed Open Studio Workshop with Laurie Savage

Description: Open to intermediate students and above. Bring your ideas of what you would like to create to this hands-on class. You will spend one-on-one time with Laurie as she helps you advance your skills set as you navigate from an idea to completion.

One Sunday, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM

Meets March 27,  In Studio

Class: $85 (Includes a $5 Studio Fee)

Students should bring their own assortment of hand tools, including:  Jeweler’s saw/blades, files, pliers as well as their own material (sterling, brass. gold)

Course level: Intermediate

Prerequisites: Students enrolled in this class should have completed at least 1 Beginner level class in Metalsmithing technique and/or possess basic silversmithing skills such as soldering, sawing, flexshaft use and sanding/finishing/polish.  Students must be able to work independently between instructor consultations.

Participants must have intermediate level metalsmithing skills in soldering, sawing, sanding/finishing, polishing and flexshaft use and be able to work safely with basic shop tools and equipment. Participants must also be able to work on individual projects.

About the instructor: Laurie Savage received a BFA in metalsmithing from MassArt in 1998. She has taught the jewelry program at Cambridge Center for Adult Education since 1999, and metalsmithing workshops at Haystack, the DeCordova Museum School, Motherbrook Arts Community, Arlington Community Education and LEXArt. She maintains a studio in the Distillery Building in South Boston, and her work is available by commission only.
