BoSoma Dance Company

Presented by BoSoma Dance Company at Larcom Theatre

BoSoma Dance Company (BDC) returns to the Larcom Theatre for their 19th Annual Season Spring Show. Highlighting the power, passion and versatility of the BDC dancers, the company will perform new work as well as classic repertory brought back to life. Artistic Director and Choreographer Katherine Hooper’s The Pursuit, created back in 2014, is a piece about the work/life balance and the juggle of finding one's purpose within the hustle of building a career, job security and family. The Company will also perform one of their signature works, Parachute, dressed in the exquisite costuming by Gloucester-based designer Jen Greeke. Parachute, a powerful display of explosive movement, spatial design, and ‘skirtography.’ BDC’s newest work set on Company dancers Stephanie Boisvert and Courtney Costa, about a personal journey through a difficult time and the rise out of the darkest days, will offer a moment of intimate contemplation. Hooper is honored to have been asked by cancer survivor Rose Flynn to create this piece about her battle and recovery which was performed at the Move for the Movement Cancer Benefit Performances in January 2022.

In addition, guest choreographer and former BDC dancer Tony Tucker will be premiering the final version of his two-part piece on the company for the first time under the stunning lights of BDC’s resident lighting designer Matt Cost. This abstract work is deeply inspired by Tucker’s personal experience, and in his words is a response to  ‘... the extreme brutality from police towards people of color and the injustice of equality. My life matters.’ We also will be debuting former BDC Dancer Jessica Rose Flynn’s new piece that she has set on the company. In Flynn’s words about her piece To Life, "We can find ourselves focusing on the specifics of our existence to find happiness, when in reality the mere aspect of having said existence and the people you spend it with are what is important. That's why whenever I make a toast, I always cheers 'To Life'." Finally, to round out the evening of dance BDC will perform Lindsey Leduc’s energetically charged Lost it to Trying and Hooper's, Reflection, set to the classics of artist Billy Joel, evoking nostalgic memories for all who experience the journey. BDC welcomes the BoSoma Youth Company as their Opening Act, supporting this group of young dancers and their commitment to dance training at the BoSoma School of Dance in Hamilton and Georgetown, MA. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to celebrate dance coming back to the stage at the Larcom Theatre!
