Join violinist Ayano Ninomiya and pianist Pei-Shan Lee for an evocative Chameleon Up Close recital of reflective works filled with atmosphere and memory. With a masterpiece of color and imagination, George Enescu’s Impressions d’enfance, Op. 28 takes us through a single day in a child’s life – complete with cuckoo clocks and crickets, fiddlers and babbling brooks. Similarly, Einojuhani Rautavaara’s Lost Landscapes recalls his own youthful wanderings. William Grant Still’s 1934 Suite for violin and piano is a richly envisioned dialogue with the Harlem Renaissance, and Brahms’ Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100 is a window into his most personal inner world.
The New York Times called Ms. Ninomiya “deeply communicative and engrossing,” and The Boston Musical Intelligencer praised Ms. Lee’s “timbral sensitivity, portraying a richness of articulations and color.”
