Chris Taylor, solo piano

On a late summer’s early evening, playing my first solo piano set at the Philadelphia Ritz-Carlton, I happened to look up to see a stunning lady sitting alone, engaged in some kind of paper work, but more importantly, tapping her heels to my music.  This fortunate encounter led me to her hometown, where after a couple of years she became my bride, and Boston my home.  My twelve years in Philadelphia allowed me to be entrenched in its 80’s jazz scene, giving me a fantastic opportunity to play with some remarkable musicians such as Philly Joe Jones, Bobby Durham, Mickey Roker, Jack Six, Christian McBride, Charles Fambrough, Joe Ford, Al Cohn, Larry McKenna and on and on…quite the education for this self taught jazz pianist from Wichita.

The creative experiences continue for me in Boston and its surrounding areas including Rhode Island and Cape Cod.  They continue, whether from my leading a jazz band for 13 years in the downtown Prudential Tower’s “Top of the Hub Restaurant”, or my involvement in small group and big band recordings, or from my touring the U.S., Canada and Europe in various projects.  They continue for me, not only from performing, but composing and teaching privately as well.  I currently have 3 recordings of my own including “The Chris Taylor Trio at the Mall at Chestnut Hill”, “Chris Taylor, Piece Offerings” and “Girl Of My Dreams, The Chris Taylor Trio with Marc Adler” on the Sweet Pea Recordings label (available @ CDBaby.com).  As a sideman, I am playing piano on various projects such as “The John Allmark Jazz Orchestra featuring Clay Osborne”, “Until Tomorrow” with Alan Dawson, Matt Gordy’s “Almost Spring”, “Personology” with the Phil Person Sextet, “Mooin’” and “Hot & Dry” with the Rich Greenblatt Vibes Quintet and with the Either-Orchestra’s “The Brunt”, “Across The Omniverse” and Ken Schaphorst’s “Over The Rainbow”.
