Story Crafting with M.I.C.E

Story Crafting with M.I.C.E

Presented by GrubStreet at Online/Virtual Space

You’re probably already familiar with the basic parts of a story – setting, character, and plot – but have you heard of the MICE Quotient? Don’t worry, it’s not about rodents! The “MICE Quotient” (an acronym for Mileu, Inquiry, Character, Event), is a formula that can help you answer questions like: “how long should my story be?” “what order should I resolve my plot threads in?” and “did I forget to answer a question I raised earlier in the story?”

In this class, we’ll discuss what the MICE Quotient is and we’ll apply it to well-known works including The Wizard of Oz, The Hate U Give, Harry Potter, and Cinderella (it’s ok if you haven’t seen/read all the examples in advance). We’ll also spend time in class talking about your own fiction stories and/or novels (or ideas for stories and novels) and how you can use MICE to make your story structure stronger. For writers age 13 - 18 ONLY.
