BCMS musicians performs Martinů’s charming Oboe Quartet and Brahms’s splendid Piano Quintet.
Composed in 1947, Marinů’s Oboe Quartet is a brief, neo-classical charmer. Brahms’s Piano Quintet in F minor went through a series of transformation from string quintet to two-piano sonata before it reached its final form. It is a musical tour de force that the composer himself referred to as “a masterpiece of chamber music.”
