Susan Lyman coerces wood into provocative figurative sculpture reflecting on the pandemic while Leslie Wilcox presents driftwood sculpture as rotten as our role in climate change.
In this exhibition Lyman, long a scavenger of found wood which she coerces into provocative figurative sculpture, presents wood as a marker of time, demonstrated through its growth rings, weathering, brokenness, and far-reaching roots. Wood and trees reveal these distressing stories to us and even act as harbingers of a perilous future.
Leslie Wilcox’s solo exhibition ROTTEN contends with our cascading global climate catastrophe. Sickened by the compelling evidence of this human-induced collapse, Wilcox extracts weather-beaten driftwood detritus from the sea and petrifies it, then gilds and patinates it to illustrate resolute proof of our culpability.
