Chamber Music with the Criers is back with “Passion and Soul” on Oct. 10 at Longy’s Pickman Hall! Enjoy an afternoon of live, in-person music-making with Grammy-nominated ensemble A Far Cry.
Passion and Soul pairs two string sextets that epitomize the collaborative, conversational essence of a larger chamber ensemble: Johannes Brahms’s youthful Sextet in B-flat Major, and Pulitzer Prize winning composer Shulamit Ran’s Lyre of Orpheus. The Brahms begins with the suggestion of a waltz, then whisks us to a love song, a pithy scherzo, and concludes with a rich rondo. Ran evokes the iconic mythological story of love and loss between Orpheus and Eurydice. The program opens with Raimundo Penaforte’s Tango for Seven, a Piazzolla-inspired, nuevo tango-style melding of string quartet and piano trio. Join us for a program that is sure to lift the spirit and soothe the soul.
