Plein Air Painting in Boston's Public Garden

Plein Air Painting in Boston's Public Garden

Presented by Fusco & Four at Boston Public Garden

Join artist Stan Moeller, known for his paintings of people and city scenes, near the 1867 Foot Bridge and the Swan Boats. Also enjoy artist Heidi Lorenz, known for her depictions of farm animals, as she turns her talents to depicting the swimming ducks and the almost-tame squirrels and birds that call the Garden home in the section across from the Four Seasons Hotel.  Plein air denotes the 19th-century French manner of painting outdoors that became a central feature of French Impressionism.

The Artists
Stan Moeller was raised in rural, northern Indiana and went on to major in art at Western Michigan University. In the mid-1990’s, Stan traveled to Monhegan Island, where artist and musician, Don Stone (1929 - 2015), became his most important mentor, who introduced him to the work of Paul Strisik, Emile Gruppé, Aldro Hibbard and others. Stan has taught painting workshops on Monhegan Island, in Tuscany and in the South of France, as well as for 7 years at the New Hampshire Institute of Art.  He travels frequently to France and Italy for inspiration to sketch and paint.

Heidi M. Lorenz, was born in Muenchweiler, Germany in 1965, and spent her childhood mostly in the UK, where magnificent coastline and country life infused her sensibilities. Relocating to the U.S. in 1986, she gained a BA in Psychology and studied art at the University of NH.  After traveling in the U.S. and Canada, in 1998 she began private study with renowned maritime artist Christopher James Ward. Further, in 2002 Heidi joined Boston School painter Dan Helgemo at the Ateljé Helgemo, and studied extensively with acclaimed Barbizon painter Dennis Sheehan between 2002 and 2006, and currently studies under Peter Granucci.  She owns and operates a farm and loves horses.
