Dewart’s work grew out of his experience as a visiting artist in Jerusalem and Straus’s work is influenced by marine distances on the Atlantic.
Working in bronze and stainless steel, Dewart embraces both traditional and contemporary processes, including elements cast using ancient lost wax methods, juxtaposed with those cut with state-of-the-art computerized water jet technology. Echoing both architectural forms and ancient mandalas, the works are at once meditative and metaphoric.
The work of Jessica Straus features a large-scaled map, detailing the coastal corridor running from the North Pole through Greenland and on down to Cape Cod, flows from the ceiling and pours across the gallery floor. A large school of carved “ghost” cod appear to be pulling this swath of the planet
