This workshop will offer an in depth exploration of making and preparing work for our new soda kiln. Specific discussions and demonstrations will include: techniques for making interesting forms and textures, materials use and surface, and glazing. Students will also experience the loading and unloading process, as well as participate in a group critique and review.
The class schedule will be as follows:
1st Class- Wheel throwing, altering, and hand-building demonstrations
2nd Class- Applying slips and building layered surfaces
3rd Class- Glazing and loading the kiln
4th Class- Unload, cleanup, critique and class party
Students should have a solid grasp on wheel throwing and hand building techniques. There will be a two week gap between the first and second class to allow ample time for making work. If any work does not make it into our final firing, it will be given priority in our next soda kiln load.
