High Strung Strummers (Cathy Mason and Sarah Jane Nelson) present: Folklore of the Fiddler in Ballads, Stories, and Tunes, a mix of Anglo-American ballads, old-time tunes, and stories often as a Crankie narrative scroll.
There will be special emphasis on the life and music of an African American fiddler from Missouri named Bill Driver who was a favorite among local dancers and lived to be 104!
The High Strung Strummers is a high-energy duo, specializing in the old-time dance music of Appalachia and Anglo-American ballads. Sarah Jane Nelson is a multi-instrumentalist and storyteller. She plays traditional music for folk festivals, New England contra dances, and other regional events. Cathy Mason is a highly accomplished fiddler and music instructor who has spent nearly two decades studying Southern fiddle music with the masters of that tradition. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Waltham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
This program takes place in the spacious Events Tent at Gore Place. Local Covid restrictions will be observed. Parking is free.
