Summer Science Discovery Program

Summer Science Discovery Program

Presented by "e" inc. at "e" inc. Planet Science Discovery Museum

Summer is on its way and at “e” inc. new plans are afoot for an in-person exciting summer program for children.  Every year, during the last 2 weeks of August, our Charlestown non-profit hosts its 2-week Summer Science Discovery Program (SSDP) in the Navy Yard.  This is a chance for children from ages 6 to 12 to work in small teams and learn new and fantastic science ideas. SSDP takes place from 9:00 to 3:30 each day.  We always have 3 in-depth and distinct science projects on the topic of the day and we parse the week so that on Wednesdays there is a field trip that supports the learning our kids are doing.
This season we have 2 great topics to choose from.  The first week we are investigating the New England Ecosystem – from water to trees to animals large and small.  Children will explore, use art to recreate, investigate the tree fungal network (think tree root morse code), investigate the many trees in our area and of course the mammals and water beings that live all around us. The second week, we are exploring the wildness of the universe!  From the solar system’s odd and individual planets (who knew Uranus was rotating on its side?) to comets and meteor showers (we hope to see one during a camp night) we will be considering how the pull of gravity ahd the flares of the sun all effect our local system – a mere dot in our galaxy.
