The Lunch Room

Presented by American Repertory Theater at Online/Virtual Space

May 18: Choreographer and Boston Ballet Principal Dancer Paulo Arrais talks about his journey as a dancer from Goiania, Brazil to schools and companies in Europe, to Boston, where he has performed as Puck in George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the title role in John Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet, among many others. Hear about how Arrais incorporates social and cultural themes including gender and mental health into the pieces he creates.

June 1: SIX Queens Adrianna Hicks, Andrea Macasaet, Brittney Mack, Courtney Mack, Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert, Mallory Maedke, and Samantha Pauley were hours away from their Broadway Opening on March 12, 2020 when live performances paused—eighteen months later, they’ll be among the first to return when performances of SIX resume on September 17. Tune in to this special edition of The Lunch Room where they’ll revisit their time in Cambridge, share what they’ve been up to since, and answer questions from the Queendom.

June 8: Award-winning Afro-Latin dance specialist, arts leader, and social activist Ana Masacote visits to talk about Queer Bodies in Motion (QBM), her dance project aiming to build awareness of LGBTQ discrimination and celebrate queer identity and pride. Hear about QBM’s Alice in Rainbowland, a reimagining of Alice in Wonderland told through dance, music, and LGBTQ pride, and about Ana’s vision for using dance to facilitate social change.

June 15: Guest TBA

June 22: Actor, singer, and musician Krystina Alabado (Burn All Night, Mean Girls, American Idiot) chats about what she’s been up to since she appeared in Burn All Night at A.R.T., her experience performing as Gretchen Wieners in the Broadway production of Mean Girls, and what’s on the horizon.

June 29: As Executive Producer Diane Borger prepares to depart A.R.T., agent and co-head of the Cultural Business Strategy Group at Creative Artists Agency Kevin Lin ’12, Broadway producer Madeleine Foster Bersin ’14, former A.R.T. Director of Special Projects/OBERON producer Ari Barbanell, and Artistic Producer Mark Lunsford reflect on her mentorship and impact on their respective careers.
