This special performance will be the World Permiere of Boston Lyric Opera’s new initiative, Poetry in Music. Poetry in Music brings together the work of prominent local poets and opera composers to create entirely new musical works and artistic experiences, presented in collaboration with the City of Boston.
The first Poetry in Music performance will debut with the song cycle “my name is Alondra”, featuring poems by City of Boston Youth Poet Laureate Alondra Bobadilla set to music by tenor and BLO Emerging Artist Composer Omar Najmi. BLO Emerging Artist Zaray Rodriguez and pianist Brendon Shapiro, an Emerging Artist alumnus, will perform the song cycle.
