SILVER LININGS: Paintings, Process and Poetry

SILVER LININGS: Paintings, Process and Poetry

Presented by Concord Center for the Visual Arts at Concord Art Association

Beginning Thursday, April 1, Concord Art presents SILVER LININGS: Paintings, Process and Poetry, featuring work by painter Katy Schneider and poet Jim Armenti. This exhibition features more than 400 3” x 4” paintings of everyday objects by Katy Schneider and poems by Jim Armenti. It will be on view through May 13, 2021.

Since April of 2020, Schneider and Armenti have generated an enormous body of work. The two began their collaboration at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each day, Schneider creates a tiny exquisitely rendered painting of an object found in her home. She upcycled the metal slide-box dividers no longer used by the Art History department at Smith College, where she is a painting professor. She paints an object on the metal and then emails an image of the completed work to Armenti. In return, he sends back a poem inspired by the painting. This collaborative daily ritual has wrought hundreds of paintings and poems, grounded in the observation of unremarkable objects and the remarkable stories they tell. Their extraordinary collaboration of Katy’s paintings paired with Jim’s poetry became a “silver lining” for both artists.

Katy Schneider’s 400 tiny paintings of objects as well as a group of 6”x6” paintings of objects will be on view in the Main Galleries. A selection of Jim Armenti’s poetry will also be on display. Visitors will be invited to write poems to go with Schneider’s paintings in an adjoining process gallery.
