Boston French Film Festival

Presented by Department of Time and Space at Eventive

The Boston French Film Festival once again delivers the very best of contemporary French cinema and will be available online for cinephiles throughout New England. This year’s lineup of ten new films includes Golden Globes Nominee Two of Us (Deux), Perfumes (Les parfums), starring Emmanuelle Devos (Call My Agent) , Quentin Dupieux’s bonkers new film, Keep an Eye Out (Au poste!) a nd a classic French policier, Night Shift (Police) directed by Anne Fontaine and starring Omar Sy (Lupin). The festival is presented during Mois de la Francophonie 2021 in partnership with the French Cultural Center (Alliance Francais of Boston) and features three films that are part of the Young French Cinema program, which focuses on the up and coming generation of filmmakers.

As always, the features selected for the Boston French Film Festival foreground the social issues and concerns that define contemporary French culture; threaded throughout this year’s films are themes of civil rights, with special attention to immigration (Tazzeka), LGBTQIA rights (Two of Us), and revelatory stories about historical events that hold firm bearing on contemporary socio-political situations that are universal to the human experience (Josep, Faithful). And, of course, no French film festival would be complete without perennial genre staples like life-affirming comedies and plenty of drama to go around.
