A Conversation on Art & Healing

A Conversation on Art & Healing

Presented by Praise Shadows Art Gallery at Online/Virtual Space

Join us for an exclusive conversation among Yuri Shimojo, our upcoming solo exhibition artist, Yng-Ru Chen, our owner of Praise Shadows Art Gallery, and Gennifer Weisenfeld, professor of art, art history & visual studies at Duke University.

The panel will not only reflect on Shimojo’s most significant work to date, “Memento Mori,” but will also explore how empathy and resiliency are born out of crisis. This event will feature a preview of the artist’s new mixed media installation dedicated to the victims of Tōhoku, as well as the millions of lives lost around the world to COVID‑19.

Shimojo’s “Memento Mori” is dedicated to the lives lost from the Japanese Tōhoku earthquake, tsunami and Fukushima nuclear crisis. Her work has never been shown in the US until now— on the tenth anniversary of the disasters.

As a community in the midst of a healthcare crisis, Shimojo’s work is timely, reflective, and a reminder of the best in humanity. Join us for her virtual talk on Thursday March 11, 2021 at 8pm.
