Introduction to Madhubani Art

Introduction to Madhubani Art

Presented by Weston Art & Innovation Center at Online/Virtual Space

Madhubani painting is a centuries old Indian folk art originating in Mithila, a region in the state of Bihar, northern India. Traditionally practiced by women, common themes include nature, gods, goddesses, and festivals. The art is characterized by eye catching geometrical patterns and bright colors.

In this beginner series, students will work over Zoom through the basics of Madhubani art. Over the course of eight 1hr classes, students will learn how to draw the art’s traditional motifs, borders, patterns and animals, ultimately creating their own piece of Madhubani art. Zoom link will be sent the day before class begins.
