Using SketchUp & Designing Patterns for Wood Inlays and Veneers

Using SketchUp & Designing Patterns for Wood Inlays and Veneers

Presented by Artisan's Asylum at Online/Virtual Space

As a continuation of the discussion from our February 2021 Inspiration Series this 2-hr workshop and demonstration will lead participants through how Milton Mizell makes his unique wood pattern veneers and inlays for his signature African boxes.
Participants will view how to use SketchUp to design and use jigs to create these wood patterns for veneers and inlays. Milton will walk you through how he was able to create, test, redesign and reiterate on his designs to achieve these patterns. This class will not cover in-depth instruction of SketchUp and we suggest participants have some basic understanding of the software.
Here is a breakdown of what you will learn in this class.
-How to create wood patterns in SketchUp to fit to a specific area.
-Understanding how to vary sequential strips of wood to create unique patterns.
-Creating jigs in SketchUp to cut wood patterns.
-Tips to get your bandsaw cutting straight and true.
-How to use a jig and your bandsaw cut lamented blanks into pattern pieces.
-Gluing up pattern pieces for resawing.
-Assembling patterns for inlaying or veneering.
