Emmanuel Music: The Bach Institute 2021: Celebrating the Past; Engaging on the Future

Presented by Emmanuel Music at On-Line Streaming

From the harmonic pain of the piercing oboes in the opening of the St. John Passion  to the what has been called Anti-Semitism in the Gospel according to John, scholars, theologians, musicians and audience alike have struggled with Bach’s masterwork for years.  Emmanuel Church’s rector, the Rev. Pamela Werntz; tenor and director Frank Kelly; and artistic director Ryan Turner discuss the discomfort and journey of the St. John Passion.

The Emmanuel Music Bach Institute celebrates its ten-year anniversary with a festival of presentations, discussions and live-streamed performances! In this year of transition - and at a time when most live teaching and performance isn't possible - the Bach Institute expands its community engagement through webinars and lectures by Emmanuel musicians and renowned Bach scholars Michael Maul and Michael Marissen, including cantata performances and a live-streamed alumni showcase concert, as well as short performances and interviews with some of our alumni spread out across the world.
