Covid-Impacted Annual Arts Event Matches Artists, SMBs in Holiday Shop Local Partnership
Each year, The Umbrella Arts Center comes alive with festive holiday energy during Winter Market, which brings thousands of visitors to Concord during the first weekend of December.
But 2020 is different.
In this extraordinary season, the staff and artists have reimagined Winter Market as a mutually supportive opportunity to safely connect artisans, retail and hospitality businesses with holiday celebrants.
Instead of hosting a market at 40 Stow Street, “Winter Market Goes to Town” invites businesses to partner with The Umbrella, enlivening four Concord retail districts with art. Downtown, the Depot, Nine Acre Corner, and West Concord will become a moveable festival of holiday arts, attracting shoppers and tourists from throughout the region.
Much as in past Art Walks in town, businesses will "adopt, host and display" an Umbrella Artist, and both will be regionally publicized -- not just for a weekend, but throughout the extended holiday retail season.
"We see this as a win-win opportunity to expand a cherished town tradition to benefit the artist community and the retail community, both struggling from the pandemic," says Stewart Ikeda, The Umbrella's Director of Marketing and Strategic Communications. "And, it gives our growing community attendees an opportunity to show their support for artists and SMBs offering distinctive, unique and personally impactful gift shopping opportunities."
Winter Market Goes to Town will be displayed in area businesses through the end of the holidays season. Learn about participating artists and businesses, find an interactive map of market locations, and discover one-of-a-kind art gifts at TheUmbrellaArts.org/WM.
