Go Out Doors - Neighbors: Arlington

Go Out Doors - Neighbors: Arlington

Presented by Arts Arlington and The Umbrella Arts Center and ArtLinks Arlington at Uncle Sam Plaza

Artfully painted doors are cropping up along Arlington's bikeway, in a preview of a new collaborative regional public art exhibition, Go Out Doors - Neighbors. Inspired in turn by NYC's En Plein Air exhibition on the High Line, Go Out Doors – Neighbors promotes healthful outdoor activity, reconnection with nature, and travel by bike and foot.

An expansion of The Umbrella Art Center's "Go Out Doors" installation of artist-painted doors in West Concord's Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, Go Out Doors – Neighbors creates an extended regional public art tour with installations connecting three towns, three Visitor Centers, three cultural districts and three bikeways -- currently Arlington, Lexington and Concord -- with many more to come in 2021  throughout the Greater Boston and Metrowest region.

Currently installed in three Arlington locations are: "We Are Stardust" by the 2020 McLellan Award-winning artist Adria Arch at the Uncle Sam Visitor Center; "Silver Lining," a collaborative painting near Summer Street Field by two ArtLinks Arlington members, Laurie Bogdan and Jason Rudokas; and "Hope," also by Laurie Bogdan, off the path by Bow Street, behind the Old Schwamb Mill.

The local portion of this project is supported by Arlington Tourism and Economic Development, the Arlington Cultural District, the Mass Cultural Council, and the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture (ArtsArlington.org).

More installations are planned here in Arlington and in additional towns over the next several months.
