A Celebration of Classical African American Composers

A Celebration of Classical African American Composers

Presented by Winchester Unitarian Society at Winchester Unitarian Society

The early 20th century saw a burgeoning of music by African American composers whose works incorporated elements of African American spirituals in symphonies, operas, and the music presented in the classical tradition. Historically, much of this music was undervalued or neglected but today is receiving the attention and recognition it richly deserves. Winchester Unitarian Society kicks off its 2020-2021 concert series with an online program featuring the works of Florence Price, William Grant Still, Margaret Bonds, and Nathaniel Dett. Music will be performed by Winchester Unitarian Society Music Director John Kramer. Proceeds will benefit the Mystic Valley Area NAACP and Winchester Unitarian Society.
