Deathlessness is a cinematic meditation, composed both within and against traditions of epic European surrealism, on the existential condition of infinite grief constitutive of black Atlantic personhood. Time collapses within this dream-like landscape of longing making past present and future past. Farley’s writing echoes throughout the film, “We are the dead. We are still walking like zombies, in the Kingdom of Loathing, and ours is a Republic of Loathing.” This is a conference of ghosts and an American haunting.
