The Laramie Project

Presented by Brandeis University Department of Theater Arts at Brandeis University Department of Theater Arts

“The Laramie Project” is a response to the kidnapping and brutal murder in Laramie, Wyoming, of 21-year-old gay college student Matthew Shepard in 1998. Members of the Tectonic Theater Project conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of Laramie, and crafted these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie into a play that is among the most-performed in the United States.

The virtual production won’t look like a typical Zoom conference, says director David A. Gammons. “We'll be able to combine individual actors' feeds, then layer in text, imagery, video, sound, music and special effects. It’s an adventure to be working with designers and technicians as they discover new ways of working with online technology, multimedia software and traditional theatre craft to adapt to these extraordinary circumstances.”
