The Suzuki Method is based on the philosophy that music may be learned by young students in much the same way language is. Just as infants learn to speak by hearing and imitating their parents, young children learn music by being immersed in sounds and songs. Through listening, imitation, and repetition, music is taught and absorbed as a language. The three defining aspects of the Suzuki Program at BMS are:
Parent involvement: Parents attend every lesson and actively support at-home practice. The learning experience becomes shared by parent and child.
Supplemental Group Classes: Reinforce the material and concepts covered in private lessons, and provide a sense of community with other students and parents.
Emphasis on listening: Developing strong aural skills and the ability to play by ear is given early importance, even as note-reading and theory are introduced.
