Chairful Where You Sit: Outdoor Preview Exhibition

Presented by Arts Arlington and Jason Russell House and Arlington Public Art at Jason Russell House

Chairful Where You Sit, a one-day outdoor art installation and fundraiser for the Arlington Commission for Arts and Culture, traditionally coincides with Porchfest and takes place in a festive gathering at historic Uncle Sam Plaza, in the heart of the Arlington Center Cultural District.  An auction of artistically transformed chairs and other small furniture items rescued from basements and curbs has supported public art in in Arlington since 2012, and saved over 400 chairs from landfill.

In 2020, due to Covid-19, the event was re-envisioned as a hybrid online and IRL event, to be conducted on the Bidding Owl online auction platform, providing access to many more participants, following an in-person preview installation.

This year, Saturday August 21 from 12 to 5PM, these artfully upcycled pieces will be on display during a festive, arts-filled afternoon on the grounds of Arlington's historic Jason Russell House, near Arlington Center at 7 Jason Street. The afternoon will also include live music performances, as well as an artist talk by sculptor Leslie Wilcox, whose Arboreal Attire public art installation is also on display.

Dozens of artists from across New England have contributed wonderfully decorated works to the auction. Be sure to preview them and bid on your favorites between August 21-September 5 at BiddingOwl.com/ArtsArlington!
