Beginner and Intermediate Tap Live & Virtual with Christina Harrington

Beginner and Intermediate Tap Live & Virtual with Christina Harrington

Presented by The Dance Complex at The Dance Complex

SATURDAY BEG. 1&2: Both levels are offered together in a combined 90-minute class, with level 1 during the first hour and level 2 (optional) in the last 30 minutes. Classes are “drop-in”, meaning you may join any week and there’s no weekly or “semester” commitment. Pre-registration is required for EACH CLASS you attend at the following link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1s7FciLnpLJp-QVk4LY_GQTsasuoJ3P9sHRI8LtbSQu0/edit?usp=sharing

Since classes are offered as drop-in style, I always review past steps and try to introduce 1 or 2 new steps each class. Beginners will feel welcome regardless of when they join.

Beginner Level 1 – The first hour of class is dedicated to Beginner steps and basic choreography. This part of class is open to all students of all levels. Starting fresh with the very basics, you will develop a repertoire of steps and learn to put them together in basic choreography. For those with little or no tap experience, or those who would like a refresher on the basics. Appropriate for adults of most fitness levels. Level 1 focuses mainly on learning the basics of tap: shuffle, flap, buffalo, essence, Manhattan, drawbacks, maxi ford and all of the various combos involving these steps like flap ball change, shuffle hop step, flap toe hop, flap heel, with a strong emphasis on technique and repetition in order to encourage muscle memory and confidence to create sounds clearly each time.

Intermediate Level 2 – The last 30 minutes of class are offered for students who wish to stay and try intermediate/advanced steps and combinations; prior tap experience is strongly recommended. Develop a larger repertoire of steps, and apply existing knowledge of the basics to faster and more complex combinations. Level 2 includes more complex steps including double drawbacks, double and triple buffalo, Cincinnati, time steps, traveling time steps, military, Irish, waltz clog, double and single pullbacks, cramp roll turns, maxi ford with a pick-up, etc. Class will incorporate a lot of quick footwork that may not necessarily involve difficult steps, but that require strong technique and speed.
