Creative Ballet and Dance Making (Grades 3-5)

Creative Ballet and Dance Making (Grades 3-5)

Presented by deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum at Online/Virtual Space

Date and Time: 8 sessions on Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2:00 – 3:00,

May 26, 28; June 2, 4; June 9, 11; June 16, 18

Students will learn a warm up, some basic ballet vocabulary, and various games and tools to build a dance. Together we will use the constraints of a video format to build a final performance to be viewed on zoom. We will invite costumes, characters and movement to make a world in which music and dance use no words to tell a story.

This exploratory and collaborative class melds together the visual and performing arts!

You will need: An open space in your house, loose clothing

Mary Teuscher is a dancer, choreographer and teacher who practices building collections of found objects, creating unusual musical instruments, site specific performance and documenting beauty in unexpected places. Through her dance work, Mary explores the use of imagination as a neuromuscular force. As a resident teaching artist in Boston Public Schools, she teaches visual art, creative writing and dance. One time in 2007 she lived outside for a whole month! Mary is a teacher at the hive, deCordova’s summer camp.
