An Elegant Ritual with Mehmet Ali Sanlikol Trio

An Elegant Ritual with Mehmet Ali Sanlikol Trio

Presented by MATV, Malden's Media Center at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Malden

The Mehmet Ali Sanlikol Trio performs Grammy nominated composer and DownBeat’s September 2016 Editor’s pick Jazz pianist Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol’s unique blend of innovative Turkish music influenced compositions in which Near and Middle Eastern modes and rhythmic cycles are not simply placed next to contemporary Jazz but are intertwined with it.

Composer, performer, and scholar - Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol is joined by the musically multifaceted George Lernis on drums and percussion and James Heazlewood-Dale on bass.

Richard Dyer of the Boston Globe describes Sanlikol's music as...
"colorful, fanciful, full of rhythmic life, and full of feeling. The multiculturalism is not touristy, but rather sophisticated, informed, internalized; Sanlikol is a citizen of the world…and he could play a decisive role in music's future in the world."
